Susan Kathryn Wimberger

January 6, 1947 — March 15, 2025

Rhinelander

Susan K. Wimberger, 78, of Rhinelander formerly of Fond du Lac went to her heavenly home on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Milestone Senior Living in Eagle River with her beloved family gathered around her. She was born in Marshfield on January 6, 1947, the daughter of Myron and Marie (nee Carpenter) Kramer.

Sue spent most of her childhood in the Thorp, Wisconsin area. She was a graduate of Goodrich High School and the St. Agnes School of Radiologic Technology. On September 9, 1967, Sue was united in marriage to James P. Wimberger at St. Louis Catholic Church in Fond du Lac. Sue and Jim met through a close friend and found a lifetime of loving family, friends, and adventure together for over 57 years. She worked as a Radiologic Technologist in Fond du Lac and for the Department of Corrections throughout the state. Sue enjoyed painting and coloring, bird watching, snowmobiling/ATVing/UTVing with friends, boating, golfing, traveling, and singing with the Hyms & Hers with Jim in Rhinelander and the South Shore Chorale in Fond du Lac. In retirement, they traveled to 17 countries including New Zealand, Australia, Tasmania, the Canadian Rockies, Alaska, and Ireland. They were members of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Rhinelander.

Sue always made space and time to be present and engage with everyone and she was always there to help. Whether it was walking at the Dome, working on projects with Jim, or swimming and pontooning in the lake with friends, throughout their lives Sue and Jim did everything together. People would comment on how neat that was and that they were great together.

Family was very important to Sue. She cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren at the lake during the summer and holidays, and gatherings with the extended Kramer and Wimberger families. She was a devoted follower of her children’s sports and pursuits, always positive and encouraging. Sue will be remembered as a healthy, strong, kind-hearted, nurturing, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Those left behind to cherish Sue’s memory include her husband of 57 years Jim, children Christopher (Teri) Wimberger of Stillwater, MN, Brian (Jill) Wimberger of Shakopee, MN, Kathryn (Darren) Wimberger-Meyer of Tryon, NC, and Jude Wimberger of Hammond, WI, Heather Wimberger of Woodbury, MN, grandchildren Isabele, Lucas, Greta, Peter, Olivia, Cooper, Grayson, Foster, Burkett, Eliana, and Anisa, brothers Michael Kramer, Gregory Kramer, Thomas (Barb) Kramer, Paul Kramer, and Charles “Chuck” Kramer, sisters Elise (Gregg) Sippel and Ann (John) Giese, and Thomas Schabel, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
