Roger was born on March 15th, 1937, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the only surviving child of  Edward Max and Martha Bertha (Koehler) Bartelt.

At the time of his death, he was married (7-2-68) to Sharon (Sherry) Ann (Sippy) Bartelt his co-pilot and navigator. They both enjoyed traveling, flying, boating and motorcycling together.  They also enjoyed their four years with little sister, Calelle Cooper.

He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, and the American Motorcyclist Association.  He was a board member and officer in RC flying clubs around Wisconsin.  He was a volunteer at Air Venture Oshkosh in 2002, 2003 and 2004.

Roger was self-employed as a draftsman/designer/engineer most of his career.  After retiring Roger and Sherry spent winters in a retirement RV community in Florida, enabling Roger to fly his RC planes and tour with Sherry on their Goldwing trike almost year-round.
