Raymond Serwe

November 24, 1934 — December 29, 2022

Raymond J. Serwe, 88, of Fond du Lac, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born on November 24, 1934 in Campbellsport, a son of the late Simon and Mary Serwe (nee Moser). He graduated from Campbellsport High School in 1953. Ray was a proud U.S. Army Veteran and was part of the 82 nd Airborne Division where he served as a Jumpmaster. On November 12, 1966, he married Mary Beth Brown at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eden. Ray attended Barber School in Chicago and had his first barber job in Ripon with his mentor and good friend, Svend Hollerup. Later, he owned and operated The Razor’s Edge for over 40 years in Fond du Lac, known to many as “Razor Ray”.

Ray began fishing as a young boy in the Mill Pond and grew up to become an avid angler. Wherever he traveled, even abroad, he always found someone to take him to the local fishing hot spot. He especially enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada with his nephew and “out fishing” his daughters on Long Lake in Plainfield, Wi. Ray was a kind and caring man with a keen competitive edge, who bowled in many leagues, enjoyed horseshoes, golfing, gardening, pheasant and deer hunting. Ray loved playing cards, especially Sheepshead and Canasta with his family, the guys and his relatives on the holidays. He was a wonderful Eppa, taking his grandchildren to the park, playing games and watching their many activities through the years.

Ray and Mary Beth traveled the globe together, venturing to Ireland, many Scandinavian countries, China, Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji. Ray was adventurous, he bungee jumped in New Zealand in his sixties and skydived with his daughter and nephew at 70. He enjoyed life and told many tales of his adventures throughout the years including stories about serving as an altar boy, working on his uncle’s farm, the soda pop factory, and about all the family and friends who were an important part of his life.

Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 56 years, Mary Beth; children, Anne Serwe of Anoka, MN, Lynne (David) Trinkner of Greendale, WI, and Suzanne Serwe of Greendale, WI; grandchildren, Grace and Mason Trinkner; and his sister-in-law, Barbara (Dick) Behnke. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and good friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws Robert & Lorraine Brown, his siblings, Bernice Timler, Shirley Pennington, Mildred Schoessow, Gertrude Polzin, Imelda Kissinger, Jane Serwe, and James Serwe.
