Michael Andrew Beisbier

September 29, 1947 — January 12, 2021

Michael A. Beisbier, DVM died on January 12, 2021 at the age of 73 in Reedsburg, WI
Mike is survived by his beloved wife Sally, nee Kreuziger; their children, Mark (Amy), Eric (Deb), Greg and Tanya (Thomas); grandchildren, Sarah, Kori, Eryn, Jack, Zachary, William, Julia, Lauren, and Jenna; siblings, Janet Smith, Joanne Medsker, Carol Baumardt, Lori Black and Amy Wilhelm. He is preceded in death by his parents Linus and Bernice (nee Berg) Beisbier and his brother Thomas.
Mike was born on September 29, 1947 in Fond du Lac, WI to Linus and Bernice Beisbier. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1965 and was an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Iowa State University with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1971. He was a member of Alpha Chi Rho and recipient of the Oris P. Idsvoog Memorial Award for his “integrity, academic achievement, and exceptional aptitude in large animal medicine and surgery”. After college graduation, he practiced large animal medicine and surgery in Winona, MN and Loyal, WI. In 1976, Mike and Sal settled in Reedsburg WI under the mentorship and partnership of Dr. Robert Miesbauer, DVM. Mike practiced large animal and later, small animal in his County-Side Veterinary Service, alongside Sal, from 1976 until his retirement in 2013. In 1998, Mike earned a postgraduate degree from Executive Veterinary Program in Swine Health Management at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as he partnered with his sons, Mark and Eric, to expand City-Side Farms and form Badger Pork.
While accomplished professionally, Mike lived a more rewarding personal life. He married the love of his life, Sally, in 1967. There is love, and there are soulmates. Mike and Sally are the latter - he knew he would wed Sal the moment he saw her close the parade in her pony cart. They spent many years building their family while Mike was in college, bringing Mark, Eric, Greg, and eventually Tanya into the world. They have set an incredibly high bar of love and friendship for everyone. Mike was able to enjoy his retirement years, with various travels to see his family, fishing, and still managing the farms. Mike has shown just how good a life can be, and that it’s “what’s in between the dash” that matters.
Mike was never one to talk of personal accomplishments but he was incredibly proud of his family. Of his children, he was always extremely proud of their character, and what they brought to the world. Of his grandchildren, Mike often said he “wanted to stick around long enough to see who they became.” That he did, and he often spoke of their accomplishments, as well as their missteps if it was a good story. While quick to praise others, Mike himself was very humble. Beyond that, he was a quick witted individual who was always curious, loved to learn and was passionate about the world being a better place for the future. His family remembers him as a fountain of knowledge - he was an incredibly intelligent, informed, and passionate man. It was often stated, if he had a glass of whiskey and good company, he could fix the world.
His family will remember his intelligence, humor, and gravitas. Mike was always someone you wanted around – whether you wanted to learn from him or laugh with him. Writing “Mike will be missed” does not seem strong enough. Mike will be missed whenever the family is together. Mike will be missed whenever you want his opinion on something. Mike will be missed when sitting around a table, just talking. Mike will be missed, whenever there is good conversation and whiskey to be had. Mike will always be missed.
A private service was held at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Campbellsport, WI on January 16, 2021.
