Mary Margaret Bick (née Meier), 97, of Fond du Lac, formerly of Campbellsport, died on Friday, June 7, 2024, at The SSM Health Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac, WI.
Mary was born on November 16, 1926, in Fond du Lac, WI, the daughter of Charles and Marie (Cunningham) Meier, the second oldest of seven children. She attended grade school at Hillcrest School in the Town of Empire, north of Eden, near their family farm. She attended St. Mary's Springs Academy, graduating in 1944, unforgettably on D-Day. Mary then went on to study at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI graduating with a bachelor's degree. It was there she met the love of her life, her husband William Bick of Chicago, IL. They married on October 14, 1950, at St. Mary’s Church in Eden, WI.
Bill and Mary settled in Janesville and then Edgerton, WI where their first two children, Peter and Peggy were born respectively. They later moved to Marinette, WI and welcomed two more children, Tom and Cyndy. They relocated to Schenectady, NY in 1966 for Bill's work with Northwestern Mutual Life. Family memories include vacations to Florida and California with numerous trips to Wisconsin for family gatherings. After Bill’s retirement in 1985, he and Mary moved back to Wisconsin to be close to extended family.
Mary was devout in her Catholic faith that served her well through all of life's ups and downs. Mary was always active in a variety of church groups; she was particularly active in the Schenectady chapter of Right to Life. Mary loved to pray and grow in her faith.
Mary loved life and people, and was quick to laugh. She would reminisce about life as a child on the farm, formal dances in her school days, and family life with Bill and the kids. Mary loved to play the piano, was skilled at sewing, and was proud of her Irish heritage. She loved the Eden picnic and parade, Packer parties, Thanksgiving gatherings, and summer family reunions. She was known for laughing at Bill's jokes and putting up with his antics.
Mary is survived by her children: Peter Sr. (Sally) Bick of Newberry, MI, Peggy (Jeff Sr.) Kleine, of Campbellsport, WI, Tom (Clare) Bick of England, and Cyndy (Jerry) Reichmann, of Red Hook, NY; 13 grandchildren: Peter Jr. (Tracy) Bjick, Jeff (Jr.) Kleine, Kelly (John) Gruszynske, Shannon (Derek) Toshner, and Katie (Derek) Larson, Amy (Clayton) Brostowin, Isaac (Lauren) Reichman, William Reichman, Alexander Reichman, and Olivia Reichman, Stephen (Sara) Bick, Sarah Bick, David Bick; 13 great-grandchildren: Parker, Phin, Anna, Johanna, Nora, Pippa, Lydia, Seamus, Violet, River, Lewis, Tristan, and Ruth Margaret, and a 14th great-grandchild expected in September.
