Margaret "Marge" Elwing

April 3, 1934 — July 25, 2022

Margaret “Marge” Elwing, 88, passed away quickly in her Campbellsport home on July 25 th . Marge and her twin brother, Bill were born in Fond du Lac on April 3rd, 1934. She is preceded in death by her husband - Stu, her oldest son - Stu II, her four siblings, and both parents. Marge is survived by her son – Dave and his wife – Kathy, her grandson – Dan and his wife – Rebecca of Manassas, VA, and her youngest grandson – Jacob of San Diego, CA. She picked up a few “extra sons” along the way: Jeff Lindsley and Butch Roth both of Campbellsport, Tim Kinzel of Park City, UT, and Vito Centofanti of Cedarburg. We will all miss her dearly.

Anybody who knew her knew that she was strong-willed, strong-minded, and held a strong sense of faith. The family is extremely thankful to the Officers, First Responders, and friends who stopped to offer assistance when the time came.

Her childhood home was not far from Lake Winnebago and what we now know as Lakeside Park. As a child she and Bill spent countless hours on or near the lake with their father. She often spoke fondly of the times she spent with her father building boats, going fishing, and in the winter, skimming across the lake on Grandpa’s ice boats. After marriage and moving to Campbellsport, Marge couldn’t go to Fond du Lac without driving through Lakeside Park and remembering those early days. She met her to-be husband Stu and his younger brother Bill while she and her twin were members of the Fondy Riders Motorcycle Club. Definitely not one of today’s motorcycle clubs; Marge and Bill’s mom and others sewed uniforms for competitions, while her dad helped keep the bikes running.  The Fondy Riders entered into a number of competitions for best dressed club; Stu’s Harley even took “Best Dressed Bike in State” one year.

Marge loved her flower gardens and eagerly awaited each year’s planting season. She loved walking visitors around the yard and telling them about each variety of flower in bloom, which had already bloomed, and which ones were still coming. Once the weather started to cool Marge put her flowers to rest until the next spring and she turned to her other passion, quilting. Marge took up quilting after Stu’s death in 1995 and, like her leatherwork before that (and sewing clothes before that), became quite good at it. Her quilts are near-works of art and will be cherished by those of us who have them.

While together, she and Stu shared many passions. They were avid trap shooters until Stu’s passing, snowmobilers until their son’s grew up and moved away, and both loved nature’s beauty and bounties (especially in the fall when hunting season came about). Although not a hunter, she loved seeing whatever harvests Stu and her boys brought home and loved the family’s Labradors. She continued to enjoy the hunting stories through Dave’s excursions and dogs through Dave and Kathy’s Labs. She was especially tickled to meet their new pooch, Crystal. When Marge met Crystal, she said, “I love her. Crystal looked into my eyes and straight into my soul.”

Margaret leaves many good friends behind but rejoins many more in Heaven.
