John Francis Briggs

December 6, 1931 — March 9, 2022

John “Jack” F. Briggs, 90, of Brownsville passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at his home. He was born in Fond du Lac on December 6, 1931, the son of Raymond and Valeria (nee Smith) Briggs. Jack was raised in the Eden area. On October 14, 1955, Jack married Joann “Sis” Twohig at the Navy Chapel in Norfolk, VA. He served four years in the U.S. Navy visiting seventeen countries in Europe, the Mediterranean, North Africa and the Caribbean where he met and had a beer with Ernest Hemmingway. After returning to Wisconsin, Jack spent twenty-seven years with the Wisconsin State Patrol retiring as a supervisor and having the distinction of attending the FBI National Academy and three years as the night security supervisor at UW – Eau Claire. After retiring to Brownsville, he worked for Michels Corporation and then delivered cars for the Agnesian Sisters across the United States.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years Joann, son Douglas (Anna) Briggs of S tar Prairie who followed in his father’s footsteps in law enforcement, daughter Jacqu eline Briggs of Eau Claire who along with Agnesian Hospice assisted Jack the last week of his life, grandson John L . Briggs granddaughters Paige Briggs and Cortney Briggs, great granddaughter Esme, great grandson Crue, sister-in-law Kay Kohlman, other relatives and friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and sisters-in-law, in-laws and two brothers-in-law.

The family extends a special thank you to Davita Dialysis, St Agnes Hospital 5 South and 6 South, Inpatient Dialysis and Agnesian Home Health and Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorial are appreciated to Shepherd of the Hills Church and School ( www.sothparish.org or W1562 County Road B, Eden, WI 53019) in Jack’s name.

A Private Family Memorial Service will be held Friday, March 18 th at the Twohig Funeral Home, 109 W. Main St. Campbellsport.  Rev. Mark Jones will officiate and inurnment will follow in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Armstrong
