Harry Jacob Batzler, 96, of Ashford went to his heavenly home on Saturday, November 19, 2022. He was born on March 22, 1926 in St. Kilian, the eldest son of Oscar and Loretta Batzler (nee Kohl). He attended Hillside School and worked on the family farm during his youth. He met the love of his life, Olive Marie Mueller, who lived just a mile away from his boyhood home. They were married on June 7, 1947 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Campbellsport. Harry and Olive were married for 71 years. Olive passed away in October 2018.
Harry lived most of his life in Ashford, where he and Olive raised five children. He was a life-long member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church. Harry started Batzler Trucking in 1949. He hauled milk to local cheese factories and he owned and operated a small sand and gravel business. Harry enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. His favorite past times were smoking his pipe, mowing the lawn, watching the Packers and All-Star Wrestling, and eating breakfast at Diner 67. He took pride in his children and grandchildren and the continued legacy of the business he created-Batzler Trucking.
Survivors include his children Madonna (Gregory) Drake, Theresa (Bob) Dunkleberger, Jake (Kathy) Batzler, Claire (Dennis) Beck and Tony (Jolene) Batzler, grandchildren Sarah (Hector) Drake Ricart, Saul (Katy) Sopoci Drake, Monica (Joe) Drake Pierce, Teresa Drake, Heidi (Andy) DeNure, Heather (Al) Helsell, Kristy (Mike) Piotrowski, Ryan (Jenni) Dunkleberger, Harrison Batzler, Halley Batzler, Hillary (Scott) Ketter, Jacob Beck, Emily (Nick) Whitty, Jordan (Paige) Beck, Miranda (Steve) Neuy, Melanie (Jeremy) Wagner, Jill (Colton) Renderman and Jared Batzler, twenty-two great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, siblings, Manuel (Dorothy) Batzler and Mary Ann (George) Weninger; in laws, Leo Mueller, Harold (Kathryn) Mueller, Rose Guell, Bea Mueller, Pat Mueller, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. Everyone knew Harry.
Harry was preceded in death by his wife Olive, parents, grandchildren Chelsey Drake, Hannah Batzler and Dennis Beck, Jr., grandson-in-law Dean Kenowski, brother, Hilary (Joy) (Darlene) Batzler, in-laws, Donna Batzler, Elizabeth and Edward Theusch, Joseph (Arlene) Mueller, Jr., Rita and John Spoerl, Gordon Guell, Lloyd Mueller.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at 2:00 pm at St. Martin’s Chapel, Ashford (N1271 Minnie Lane, Campbellsport). Rev. Mark Jones will officiate and burial will follow in St. Martin’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 29, 2022 from 11:00 am until time of Mass at St. Martin’s Chapel, Ashford.
