Geraldine B. Atchison

July 13, 1933 — October 24, 2022

Geraldine Beverly Atchison passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 24, 2022, after a long battle with cardiovascular disease.  Geri was born on July 13, 1933 to Ada and Arnold Scholler. She was married to Raymond Atchison on August 21,1954.   She lived the majority of her life in Fond du Lac, but has resided at Heather Meadows, in North Fond du Lac, for the last 13 years of her life.

Geri was very active in the Fond du Lac community. She attended St. Peter’s Lutheran School and graduated from Winnebago Lutheran Academy. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.   She worked with her husband at their tax accounting business that was conducted out of their home at Lake Deneveu. Geri was also a member of the Fond du Lac Lioness Club and the Fond du Lac Stamp Club for many years.

Geri was known to be a master knitter and crocheter.  Often creating masterpieces by simply looking at a picture and making the blanket or project without using patterns.  She showed her love for friends, family, and the community by gifting these items made with love.  She was an avid reader, and would often finish a book in one day.  She had an extensive book collection, but her favorite book was the Bible, which she read every day.  She also loved doing puzzles with her family and friends.  She especially looked forward to Thursday puzzle time with her daughter Wendy.  Geri was known for her ability to hold lengthy conversations.  She loved to tell stories, especially about genealogy and ancestry which she had a high interest and knowledge in.  Geri had a strong faith in her Lord and was active in many Bible Studies with local churches. She loved living at Heather Meadows, and was surrounded by so many wonderful neighbors that looked in on her, spent time with her, and supported her.  She especially loved cheat day Tuesdays where she would congregate with them and share stories.

Geri was known for her kind heart and giving nature.  She viewed family as more than blood relationships.  She was proud of the relationships she built with people and maintained, even after family changes occurred. She considered people family for life.  She especially loved to “adopt” people as her grandmother always stating “I am your grandma now”.  Geri was known for often ending her conversations by saying “May God bless you and your family”.

Geri loved her six children who survive her in death: Donald (Dorothy) Atchison, Richard Atchison, Rhonda (Dean) Hjelden, Joel (Betty) Atchison, Wendy (Frank) Giebel, and Shari Atchison (special friend Michael). Geri loved to brag about her grandchildren and was so proud of them all: Jessica, Sarah, William, Raymond, Aaron, Amanda, Brandon, Brianna, Nakeeta, Sierra, Jennee, and Kourtni.  She lit up when her great grandchildren came to visit: Carter, Kendra, Lucas, Jillian, Grace, Evelyn, Coulson, Crystal, Arietta, Joanna, Ferryn, Rowan, Arlo, and the youngest Ellie.  She also had a special relationship and place in her heart for her great nephew Derek Scholler. Her great great grandchildren: Auden, Mavis, Becket, Cameron, Meilah.

Geri was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Earl Atchison, her mother and father Ada and Arnold Scholler, her brother Arlyn Scholler, her nephew Scott Scholler, her grandson Raymond Atchison, and her daughter-in-law Kat Rapa.

In the last years of her life Geri faced many health challenges and the family would like to recognize her granddaughter, Jessica Longdin, who provided daily care and countless hours of support for her. In the last year of her life, Judy Burton, was her private nurse and friend who offered loving support and care for her. Her family would like to give special thanks to the cardiology team at SSM Health, especially Jessica Harding and her team.  They were also blessed to work with the team of special workers at SSM Health at Home Hospice at the end of her life.
