Edward L. Kelroy, 100, of Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at SSM Hospice Home of Hope. He was born on October 11, 1922 on the Kelroy homestead, the son of Edward V. and Ethel (nee Kelley) Kelroy.
He served his country in the Navy during WWII from 1943 to 1946; stationed on LCS 114 as a Radioman 3rd Class and participated in the Battle of Okinawa. Ed was privileged to go on a Honor Flight to Washington, DC on June 20, 2009.
Ed married Shirley E. Dellger, on January 28, 1950 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fond du Lac. After their marriage, Ed farmed on the family farm being 4 th generation until 1978 when his son Jim took over the farm; the 5 th generation. Ed then worked for the Lomira School District until retiring in 1988 and started driving school bus finishing in 2006. Ed enjoyed playing cards belonging to many card clubs. He was proud of his Irish heritage and greatly enjoyed the three trips to Ireland he took with Shirley. They loved to travel to different countries, states, and go on cruises.
Those left behind to cherish his memory include his children, Jim (Marlene) Kelroy of Byron, Kathie (Lyle) Hefter of Lomira, Daniel (Terese) Kelroy of Fond du Lac, and Mary (Mike) Kelroy-Skelton of Mayville, grandchildren Brian (Dana) Kelroy, Kevin (Lainey) Kelroy, Brenda (fiancé Ken Weyerberg) Hefter, Robert (Kaitlyn) Hefter, Christie (Eric) Hanson, Kimberly (Brad) Fahrenkrug, Seth (fiancée Lauren Alston) Kelroy, Ryan (Kerri) Skelton, Ashley (Tom) Holt and Allie (TJ) Radloff, 22 great-grandchildren. Ed is further survived by his sister Margaret Schmitz, sister -in-law Darlene Kelroy; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his beloved wife Shirley, parents, in-laws George and Nellie Dellger, grandchildren Paul Hefter and Jason Skelton, brothers Robert and John, sister Rosemary Schmitz, brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Larry and Lucine Dellger, Herbert Schmitz and Donald Schmitz.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Ed will be held on Saturday, April 22 nd at 11:00 am at Sons of Zebedee: St. John’s Catholic Church, N3683 WI-175, Fond du Lac, WI 54937. Rev. Nathaniel Miniatt will officiate and burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
Ed’s family will greet relatives and friends from 9:00 until 10:45 am Saturday, April 22 nd at St, John’s Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Sons of Zebedee- St. John’s Catholic Church or to St. Francis Home.
