AMY LEA GALIPO (FICTUM), 48, of Fond du Lac was called to her eternal home on Saturday evening, September 10, 2022, at Frontida Nursing Home in Fond du Lac after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Amy was born October 6, 1973, in Chilton, WI, the daughter of Donald and Imogene Fictum. She graduated from New Holstein High School in 1991. Amy attended the University of Iowa, where she received her undergraduate degree in Education. She was proud to be a lifelong Hawkeyes fan and unmercifully teased her brothers whenever the Hawkeyes beat the Badgers. She furthered her education at Lewis University, receiving her master’s degree in Education and Counseling. On September 3, 2016, she was united in marriage with Denny Galipo at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac.
Amy’s first teaching assignment was at Muscatine High School in Iowa, followed by Plainfield High School in Illinois. She then moved on to Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora, Illinois, where she spent ten years working in her dream job as a School to Careers Counselor. Always looking to move closer to her parents, she applied for her first Wisconsin job at Wauwatosa East High School and later worked as Guidance Counselor at Fond du Lac High School. During her time as educator and counselor, Amy was a positive influence in the lives of countless students.
Amy enjoyed music and dancing, and as a young girl wanted to be a professional dancer and dance with Janet Jackson. Every summer she enjoyed the family camping trip to Firefly Lake. She worried her brothers when she swam way offshore (even after her brothers had threatened to tie her to a fish crib and leave her there). Amy loved her family dearly and made it a priority to spend time with her Mom and Dad and her brothers’ families. Amy shared a special relationship with her mother, and they spent many wonderful times together rummage shopping, Black Friday shopping, and going out to eat. She also had a special relationship with her niece Grace, going to Christian music festivals together and continuing the tradition of shopping together that she had started with her mom. She was generous, helpful, and lent support to anyone who knew her. Amy was a faithful and active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, where she shared her love for her Savior singing in the choir. Throughout Amy’s life her strength, resilience, and reliance on the Lord were a testimony of faith to everyone who knew her.
Amy is survived by her husband Denny Galipo of New Holstein, her father Donald Fictum of New Holstein, her brother Mark (Emily) Fictum and Leah, Aidan, Holly, Maggie, Katie, and Emma Fictum, Michelle (Scott) Steinke, and Catherine Clingensmith, of Eau Claire; her brother Greg (Colleen) Fictum and Grace and Noah of New Holstein; grandniece Lilianna North and grandnephews Deon and Noah Clingensmith of Eau Claire; her father-in-law Salvatore Galipo, and sister-in-law Debbie (Bill) Piechura, her husband’s daughters Gina and Christy and their families; many cousins with whom she shared a lifelong relationship that she valued very dearly, and many close friends.
Amy was preceded in death by her mother Imogene Fictum, her sister Linda Ann Fictum, sister-in-law Margaret Fictum, and her mother-in-law Frances Galipo.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 855 Martin Ave, Fond du Lac, WI 54935 on Sunday, September 18. Burial will follow at New Holstein City Cemetery.
