Aloysius George (Al) Ciha, beloved husband of Claire O’Konski Ciha, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at the age of 98. Al was born in Algoma, Wisconsin to the late George and Rose Ciha on September 29, 1925. Al spent his formative years in Algoma, graduating from Algoma High School in January 1943.
In August 1943, Al enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and served until 1945. He was a member of the 15th Air Corps, 3541st Army Air Force Squadron A1 based at Foggia, Italy and flew numerous bombing missions over Europe. Al achieved the rank of Sergeant as a tail gunner and aerial photographer. Upon returning home, Al married Claire O’Konski on February 11, 1950 and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Illinois-Champaign in 1952. Claire and Al made their home in southeastern Wisconsin, where they happily raised seven children in Glendale, Wisconsin and the town of Wayne, Wisconsin. Al enjoyed gardening. He was also an artist and designed and built the Ciha family home over 50 years ago.
Al’s life was defined by his love of God, Claire, his family and his treasured friends. His positive spirit, independence and irrepressible “can do” outlook were inspiring.
Al is survived by his children Fran Heinzel (Ciha), James, Michael and Philip Ciha, grandchildren Genny, Julia, Jack, Abby, Ben, Meron, Merhawi, Mary, Jennifer, Thomas, Lauren, Owen and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Al was pre-deceased by his wife Claire, son Patrick and daughters Kate and Mary.
