Alexandré A. Bowlby
Alexandré Bowlby, born April 23rd, 1990, in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, left us far too soon on December 15th, 2024, at the age of 34. For over six long years, Alex faced brain cancer with a quiet, courageous determination that inspired everyone around him. Through every challenge cancer sent his way, his strength and positivity never wavered, and he vocalized his genuine gratitude every chance he had. He fought not just to survive, but to truly live and that he did.
Alex, also affectionately known as Zal, Zalex, Zal Pal, Al or Zander, embodied kindness in its purest form. He was the kind of person who made strangers feel like friends and friends feel like family. With his heart of gold and his contagious smile, he had a rare ability to connect with everyone he met. Alex didn’t just pass through life; he left an indelible mark on every person who had the privilege of knowing him.
Alex faced the unthinkable with a quiet bravery and grace, never letting his own challenges dull his love for those around him. Whether through his love of music, sports, his laughter or simply his presence, he reminded us of the importance of compassion and joy in the face of life’s hardest moments. His friendships were deep and enduring, built on his genuine care and his natural gift of making people feel seen and valued.
Alex is survived by his loving parents, Rose and Dan Rosenau and Michael and Shalene Bowlby; siblings Sarah Bowlby, Seth Rosenau, Cozette (Devon) Pierce, Willow Rosenau, Jordan Bowlby, Preston Bowlby, precious niece, Azalea Pierce and his former wife Christina Richmond. He was preceded in death by Grandparents Lloyd and Patricia Bailey, Richard Bowlby, and Glen and JoAnn Rosenau. He was a son, a brother, an uncle, a grandson, a nephew, a cousin and a friend and will have a special place in the hearts of many.
For those who loved him, the loss feels unbearable and though he is no longer with us, Alex’s memory remains close. You’ll feel him in the most unexpected of moments; like when you hear a drum solo that shakes you to your core, the rumbling roar of a racecar, when your hands get a little sweaty and you can’t help but laugh, when you do that mirror double-take to make sure your hair is just right or when you brighten a stranger’s day with just a simple smile; that will be Alex with you.
In his too-short life, Alex taught us what it means to truly live: to love unconditionally, to face hardship with resilience and to create lasting connections that transcend time. He was, and always will be, an example of the very best humanity has to offer, and his legacy will live on forever in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Please honor him by attending his funeral service and luncheon to follow held at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 245 S 2nd Street, Oakfield, Wisconsin on Thursday, December 19th, 2024. Visitation will begin at 11:00am, service at 2:00 pm with Pastor Matthew Schwartz officiating the service, and the luncheon will follow. It was Alex’s wish that he would be celebrated by those that loved him and that they would join in the visitation, service and luncheon; in true Alex fashion, all are truly welcome.
Alex’s family sends special thanks for the superb care and dedication he received from the Neuro-Oncology Departments at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee, UW Health University Hospital in Madison and at the end of his life, the compassionate care he received from SSM Hospice in Fond du Lac.
I will miss my brother endlessly, but it has been my life’s greatest honor to be his sister, his fiercest advocate, and to share each chapter of his courageous journey. Though his race had ended, and the beat has quieted here on earth, there’s a victory lap and encore in heaven and he’s got the drum solo.
