Leo William Lang

June 8, 1915 — November 9, 2007

Leo W. Lang, 92, formerly of Campbellsport died Friday November 9, 2007 at the Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca. He was born on June 8, 1915 in Marathon the son of William and Margaret Selinger Lang. He attended University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and received his Masters from the UW of Madison. Leo served his country in the Army in World War II for 5 years in the 439th Battalion. He was a member of the Army Reserves for 24 years and retired as a Lt. Colonel. He married LaNore Oleson in Texas on December 27, 1941. Leo was in Public School Education for 39 years. He taught in Marathon, Pulaski, Wausau, and Brooklyn and was the Superintendent of Campbellsport for 32 years. He was an honorary member of the Phi Delta Kappa an education fraternity. Leo was a life member of St. Matthews Catholic Church and very active in the Pulaski and Campbellsport Boy Scouts as a leader and its support. He served on various Education Committees and Boards. After retiring, Leo became a supervisor on the Fond du Lac County Board for 16 years and was involved in many different committees. Leo was voted Outstanding Senior Citizen of Fond du Lac County. He enjoyed making many things of wood for family and friends. Leo considered Campbellsport home and respected the rural flavor and incorporated that into his school policies. Leo was a member of the Campbellsport Lions Club, Campbellsport VFW Post 8339 and the Bintzler Waehler American Legion Post 347 in Lomira. Leo was honored by the Campbellsport Lions Club for his service and dedication to the Campbellsport community in 1988. Survivors include his wife LaNore of Waupaca, two sons: Merlin R. (Carol A.) of Waupaca, John O. Lang of Cincinnati, OH, three daughters: Mary (Dr. Hans) Sollinger of Madison, Jane (Robert) Schmidt of Richmond, VA, and Margie (Sam) Smith of St. Louis, MO, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and one sister Mary (Leon) Boehm of Wausau and many other relatives and friends. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers and 5 sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday November 17, 2007 at 10:00 AM at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Campbellsport. Rev. Neil Zinthefer and Rev. Michael Moran officiating, with burial following in St. Matthew’s Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday Nov. 16 from 4:00 PM. until 7:00 PM at the Twohig Funeral Home in Campbellsport with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. On Sat. Nov. 17, at 9:00 AM there will be visitation at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Campbellsport School District for the Lang Auditorium.
