Dorothy I. King, 87, formerly of 485 E. 9th Street, Fond du Lac died Friday April 18, 2008 at Charleston, IL. She was born on December 4, 1920 in Wapello, IA, the daughter of the late Arthur A. and Anna Shipman Vandevort. Dorothy attended grade School and High school in Des Moines, IA. After graduation she was employed until enlisting in the U.S. Navy and she served her country for 4 years. She was discharged on Dec. 8, 1945. Dorothy was married to Thomas J. King on Dec. 18, 1948 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Dotyville. Thomas preceded her in death on March 18, 1964. Dorothy worked at several businesses in Fond du Lac and after retirement she was a foster grandmother at Waters school. She was a member of the Holy Family Parish, the Daughters of Isabella, Trier-Puddy American Legion Post 75 and for the last five years has lived at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King. . Survivors include her brother-in-law Bud Fisher and sister-in-law Dorothy King of Co. Rd H Fond du Lac, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Tom and 4 sisters: Frances, Roena, Lucile and Harriet. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday April 23rd at 11:00 AM at the Holy Family Parish the Sacred Heart Church on S. Peters and Western Avenue in Fond du Lac with Rev. Jim Jaeger officiating with burial and military rites provided by Trier Puddy American Legion Post 75 at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. The Twohig Funeral Home of Fond du Lac is assisting the family with the arrangements. www.twohigfunerals.com
