Allen Richard “Dick” Westemeier, 74, of Campbellsport passed away Monday June 16, 2008 after spending Father’s Day surrounded by his family. Allen was born on Sept. 13, 1933 in Eden and moved to Fond du Lac at a young age. He left behind his wife of 49 yrs. Alice and a plethora of children, grandchildren, family and friends. Their children are Roger (Donna), Regina and her children Nikoli, Margaret, Aurora and Jack, Bill (Roberta) and their children Max, William and Maricela, Renee (Pat) and their children Sam and Hannah, Mary (Mike) and their sons Marc and Ben, Jane (Mike) and their daughter Kaitlyn, Richard (Lora) and their children Alisha, Kaitlyn Marie and Austin, Allison, Kari (Todd), David (Christine), Amy (Steve), Jerry, Ryon, Amber, Christopher and Shawn. He is also survived by his brother Robert (Betty) of Eden, his stepsisters Ann (Charles) Hess and Ethel (Wayne) Lohse, his stepbrother Leonard (Donna) Drohlshagen and his sisters-in-law Catherine (Tom) Smith and Helen (Jim) Sgambati. Allen was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Grace Westemeier, his daughter Lisa, his stepmother Elsie and his stepbrother David Drohlshagen. Allen succumbed to complications from asbestosis which resulted from his exposure to asbestos during his naval service as well as from Parkinson’s Disease. Allen was a naval officer on the USS Missouri and a veteran of the Korean War. During his lifetime Allen was employed by the Campbellsport Public Schools and Mammoth Springs Canning Company. He was a member of the Wisconsin Foster and Adoptive Parents Organization, the Knights of Columbus, United Commercial Travelers and the Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC). Allen and Alice have been foster parents for many years and have also been respite care providers for families under stress. Allen, Alice and their entire family were the subject of a documentary: Wanted: A Room with Love. In 1995, Allen and Alice were also chosen by WISN TV to receive the “12 Who Care” awards. They were the first runner up in the 1996 National Knights of Columbus Family of the Year awards. Dick loved to take scenic journeys with his own “shortcuts”. He especially loved to… “look at the leaves” and ride the ferries of Wisconsin. He has now taken his last ferry ride to heaven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday June 18th at 7:00 PM St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 406 E. Main St. Campbellsport. Rev. Neil Zinthefer will officiate. Cremation will follow with inurnment at St. Matthew’s Cemetery on Sunday June 22 at 5:00 PM. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 PM until time of mass at the church.
