Roger Herbert Anderson, 76, went to his reward peacefully on Saturday morning July 12, 2008 at his home, having found victory over cancer through his death. He was born on Nov. 16, 1931 to Rosella Hillebrand in Lomira. He grew up in Nasbro, where he began his love for the game of baseball that stayed with him throughout his life. He graduated from Fond du Lac High School in 1950. He worked at the Soo Line for 11 years and the learned the drywall trade and established/partnered in A & H Drywall until his retirement. Roger married Helen Mathys in 1956 and they had 3 sons, Helen died of cancer in 1964. Roger then married Jacqueline Koenigs Grimes in 1965 who was a widow who had a son. On their first anniversary they had a daughter. Roger was a member of Holy Family Catholic Parish the Sacred Heart Church. Survivors include his wife of 43 years Jackie, his sons Dean Anderson of Eau Claire, Dale (Lois) Anderson, David (Renee) Anderson, Christopher Grimes and his daughter Mindy (Shaun) Leitner all of Fond du Lac. He is further survived by his grandchildren Greta, Emma, Shawn (Cori), Samantha, Zachary, Stephanie, and Jacob Anderson, Parker Grimes, Maxwell and Claire Zankle and Nikki, Hannah and Jakob Leitner, his brother Leon Hillebrand, his foster brother and sister Victor Bauer and Irma Schaad and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Roger is also survived by the Athistinathan family and the Xavier family of India to whom he was introduced by a Catholic missionary in 1995 and of which he formed a close relationship with throughout the past 13 years. Roger played baseball and softball all through his school years and then in several adult leagues. He also enjoyed playing cards, ice fishing, golfing, collecting Indian artifacts and especially gardening. Roger won the annual “first ripe tomato” contest this year having picked two on this past Wednesday, one from his backyard garden and the other from his community garden plot. He proudly kept those two tomatoes close-by these past few days. Being a “man of the earth” he often said that he wished more people would get out and plant a garden, as it provides much peace and satifaction. Visitation: We are respecting Roger’s wishes to limit final visitation to immediate family member, but want to thank all of you who have been wonderful friends to him; he thought highly of you and spoke of you often.
