Franklin “Frank” Dowland, 83, of Fond du Lac died Monday July 21, 2008 at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home. He was born January 3, 1925 in Fond du Lac the son of Floyd and Molly Holzstein Dowland. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served in the Pacific Theater until 1946. He married Shirley J. Streeter on June 12, 1948 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac. He worked for the Soo Line Railroad as a Locomotive Engineer for 37 years and retired in 1986. Frank enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing and being with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Shirley of 60 years, 5 sons: Jeffrey (Carol) of Mt. Calvary, Terry (Cathy) of Fond du Lac, Mike (Mary) of North Fond du Lac, Dan (Angi) of Fond du Lac and Rick (Jill) of Forest Junction, one sister Primrose Schindelholz of Fond du Lac, 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, nieces, nephew and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, an infant brother, 1 half sister and 1 half brother. Cremation has taken place with private family services. The Twohig Funeral Home at 305 Fond du Lac Avenue is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers memorials are appreciated. The family would like to thank the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home for the wonderful care Frank received at the home.
