Sister Mary Elka Becker

Sister M. Elka Becker, SSSF, 105, passed away on Saturday July 11, 2009 at St. Joseph Convent in Campbellsport. Sister was born on Feb. 27, 1904 in Howells, NE the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Ann Bogner Becker. She joined the School Sisters of St. Francis on July 17, 1919 and professed her vows on Aug. 10, 1921. After receiving her teaching degree, Sister Elka taught at parish schools in West Allis and Milwaukee and then returned to Nebraska to teach in the Omaha area until retiring. Sister Elka was the beloved sister of Martin Becker. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and the School Sisters of St. Francis Community with whom she shared her life for 90 years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wed. July 15, 2009 at 1:30 PM at St. Joseph Convent, 526 Mill St. Campbellsport. Burial will follow in Sisters Cemetery Campbellsport. Visitation will be Wed. from 10:00 AM until time of Mass at St. Joseph Convent. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the School Sisters of St. Francis are appreciated. www.twohigfunerals.com
