Dorothy M. Kraus, 97, of Fond du Lac went to her heavenly home on Monday Oct. 12, 2009 with her loving family gathered around her at All About Life Rehab Facility in Fond du Lac. She was born in Fond du Lac on Feb. 28, 1912 the daughter of the late John and Christina Bintz Freund. On Sept. 11, 1937 she married Oscar Kraus in Fond du Lac. She and Oscar farmed in the Oakfield area. She loved cooking, baking and knitting. She was a foster mother to 17 children. After retirement they moved back to Fond du Lac. Survivors include her 5 children: Oscar (Delores) of Fond du Lac, Roland (Candy) of Janesville, John (Sandra) of Fond du Lac, Dolores (Robert) Bender of South Beloit, IL and Althea Zamzow of Fond du Lac, 16 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister-in-law Dorothy Kraus, brother-in-law Peter (Lorraine) Kraus both of Fond du Lac and sister-in-law Victoria (Raymond) Schrab of Hustisford and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Oscar on Dec. 23, 1999, granddaughter Angela Willett in 1971, great grandson Zachary Kraus in 1991, 3 sisters: Lucile Freund, Ethel (Robert) Shortt and Marie (Sal) Schlaefer and 3 brothers: Roland (Margaret) Freund, Walter (Amanda) Freund and John (Ceil) Freund, brother-in-law Herman Kraus, sister-in-law Elizabeth (Ambrose) Wettstein and brother-in-law George (Estella) Kraus. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wed. October 14, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 232 S. Peters Avenue in Fond du Lac with Rev. Robert Stiefvater officiating with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
