Thomas A. Pyle, 85, of North Fond du Lac passed away on Wed. Jan. 6, 2010 at Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee. He was born on March 16, 1924 the son of Thomas F. and Esther Willman Pyle in Milwaukee. He attended Cass Street Elementary and graduated from Lincoln High School. He played sandlot and industrial league baseball from 1940 until 1947. He attended UW-Extension from 1953 until 1956. He served his country in World War II in the Army in the anti aircraft artillery in Greenland in 1943, special services at Camp Haan, CA in 1944 and then medical corps at Fort Richardson, AK in 1945. On Sept. 22, 1962 he married Elizabeth C. Wierman at the Trinity Methodist Church in Waldo. He served as President of Local 356 UPA-CIO in 1948 and President of Milprint Club in 1961. He served in plant management for Olin Matheson Chemical Corp. W. Monroe, LA, Olinkraft in Kankakee, IL, Riegel Paper Corp in St. Louis, MO, Superior Tea and Coffee, Chicago, IL and Enger Kress Co. West Bend, WI. He served as a foster treatment parents with his wife, Bette for 40 boys over a 30 year period for both Fond du Lac County and the state of Wisconsin. One of his greatest joys was serving as editor and chairman of the 500th AAA Gun BN’s reunion group from 1992 to 2001. He was a published writer and 10 year member of the Fond du Lac Writer’s Club. He enjoyed foreign language, was a member of the Spanish Club, did tutoring for friends and had a keen interest in American and World politics, genealogy, science and religion. Survivors include his daughter Christina (Tom) Ketchum of Wausau, Juliette (Jon) Guth of Mosinee and Penny (Jack) Klumb of Horicon, niece Karen (Merlin) Anderson of Apple Valley, MN and nephew Mike (Susan) Pyle of Boston, MA and many grandchildren, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife on April 22, 2004, his brother Bill (Marge), infant sister Margaret Ann, 2 sons: Billy and Mark W. Johnston and daughter Judi (Milt) Wilson.
