William “Bill” Lenz, 87, of St. Peter’s Place, Fond du Lac, went to eternal life on April 7, 2010. He was born September 28, 1922, in Wauzeka, WI, the son of William and Amelia Rose Lenz. On April 4, 1947, he married Vernice Backhaus At St. Lucas, Kewaskum. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on Easter Sunday. He was a co-founder of Shefond Oil with brother-in-law Henry Pieper. He was a Purple Heart recipient while serving in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre. He served on the Church Council at Trinity, Dundee. He was a member of the Plenary and Executive boards at Winnebago Lutheran Academy and was the founder of the annual “Tee it Up” for WLA golf tournament. He was a lifelong member of Trinity, Dundee, and more recently at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He was so proud to be able to attend at the new church in Fond du Lac. He supported Christian education at all levels. He was active on the board of directors for the “Petroleum Marketers of Wisconsin” and “Bank One”. He was also active in forming the Long Lake Youth Baseball Association. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, traveling, youth baseball and time spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Vernice, one son Bill (Valerie) of Waupaca and their children William (Shelley), Jackson and Taylor; five daughters Dede Speder of Tucson, AZ, and her children Jeff (Jelene) and Scott (Pamela), Cheryl Lenz-Calvo of Evanston, IL, and her daughters Tatiana and Amara, Michele (Tony) Corcoran of Flagstaff, AZ, and their children Ben and Nicole, Sheila Henkel (Fiance Matt Brzeski) of Plymouth and her daughter Tonya (Fiance Andy Kabele), and Chari (Lee) Purchatzke of Dallas City, IL, and their children Tyson (Malinda) and Ross. He also had two great-grandchildren William Davis Lenz and Morgan Gianna Speder. He is futher survived by two sisters, Gertrude Koecke of Prairie du Chien, Dolores (Karl) Mockrud of Aberdeen, MS, and two brothers, Charles (Cleo) of Tomah and George (Erla) of Manitowoc. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother and sister-in-law Dale and Doreen of Wauzeka, and one brother-in-law Everett Koecke of Prairie du Chien. Funeral Services will be on Monday, April 12th at 3:00 PM at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church 1600 S. Main Street Fond du Lac with Pastor Michael Zuberbier officiating.. Internment will take place with full military honors at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Dundee. Visitation will be Monday at the church from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Church or The American Diabetes Association.
