Harold D. Zielicke, 81, of N3266 County Road V, Eden, WI, entered into eternal rest surrounded by his loving family on June 25, 2010 at Manor Care in Fond du Lac where he had been a resident for the past 12 months. He was born July 15, 1928, the son of Rolland and Leila Blank Zielicke at Byron, WI and where he attended grade school. He was a United States Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict from April 1951 – April 1953. On October 24, 1953, he married Esther Vorwerk at Parshall, North Dakota and together they started farming on their Town of Eden farm in November of that year, and where they have lived all of their married life. To supplement his meager farm income, Harold worked at the Fond du Lac Stone Company, hauled milk for a time and he worked several years at the Fred Reuping Leather Company in Fond du Lac. Harold loved his farm, it was his life. He worked tirelessly to build it up and improve and preserve the land for future generations. He always persevered despite the adversities that came his way. He strongly believed in the value of hard work and demonstrated it every day while he was able. Even after ill-health prevented him from actively farming, he took a keen interest and proudly watched as his youngest son, James, competently took over the farm operation. It gave him great peace and comfort knowing his farm would stay in the family and be well taken care of. He was a loving father and grandfather. His three grandchildren brought him much joy and happiness. Harold is survived by and sadly missed by Esther, his loving wife of 56 years. He is also survived by his two sons and one daughter, Randy (Sharon) of Appleton, Barbara (Allen) Hau of Glenbeulah, James of Eden; three grandchildren: Adam and Sarah Zielicke and Ethan Hau. He is further survived by five brothers Merlin (Pearl), Stanley (Virginia) and Leslie (Marge), all of Fond du Lac, Daniel (Melody) of Lomira, Wayne (Genevieve) of Juneau, and a sister Darline (Robert) Fellwock of Lomira. His brothers and sisters-in-law Harold and Elaine Vorwerk of Eden, Wesley and Eileen Vorwerk of West Bend, James and Ilene Vorwerk of Summerset, SD, Lois and Don Larson of Duluth, MN and Dorothy and Jerrold Schroeder of El Paso, TX, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife’s parents, sister-in-law, Evelyn Zielicke, sister and brother-in-law Genevieve and John Cearns, sister, Judy Lusk, brother-in-law Lloyd Vorwerk, nieces Sharon Shussman and Julie Metoxen, nephew, David Zielicke and great-nephews, Brian Metoxen and Joshua Zielicke.
