Ambrose Bernard Murphy

Ambrose B. Murphy, 89, of N2987 Hilltop Drive, Campbellsport, went to his eternal reward on September 11th, surrounded by his family at his home. He was born on October 17, 1920, to Charles and Sarah Daley Murphy in the town of Eden. On June 1, 1946, he married Dorothy LaPlant at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Walsh, Wisconsin. The couple farmed in the Town of Eden until 1956 and then operated Murphy’s Greenhouse for 35 years. Ambrose was employed by Baumhardt Sand & Gravel of Eden, retiring after 28 years. He was a founding member of the Eden Volunteer Fire Department and was also active in Little League, a 4-H Leader and a guide at the Galloway House in Fond du Lac. He was an avid turkey and deer hunter. Ambrose belonged to the Catholic Order of Foresters for 75 years and was a member of the Sons of Zebedee: SS. James and John Catholic Church in Byron. Survivors included his wife, Dorothy, and seven children: Michael (Molly) of Lake Tomahawk; Patrick (Annette) of Campbellsport; Mary (James) Dickens of Fond du Lac; Daniel (Juanita) of Lomira; John (Sharon) of Campbellsport; Jane (John) Matusinec of Muskego and Helen (Boyd) Plankinton of Holton, Kansas; 14 grandchildren: Kathy (Ronny) Cooksey of Oregon; Sarah (Tony) Lowe of Campbellsport; Amanda Murphy of Horn Lake, Mississippi; Mindy Murphy of Lomira; Stacy (Jeff) Stremke of Eden; Nathan Ewing of Lomira; Casey and Megan Murphy of Campbellsport; Andrew, Kate, Zachary and Daniel Matusinec of Muskego; Kevin (Kate) Plankinton of Chicago and Kirby Plankinton of Holton, Kansas; great-grandchildren: Hailey, Kenzie and Ryan Lowe; Erica Kriner, Krystina Murphy, Brittany and Jordan Stremke; and one brother, James (Millie) Murphy of Fond du Lac; sisters-in-law Cecelia Peterson of Marinette and Joyce Johnson of Menominee, Michigan and nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death was a granddaughter, Jamie, a grandson, Christopher; his brothers John and Leo Murphy and their wives Elsie and Agnes; brother-and sister-in-law Francis and Eleanor LaPlant; and brothers-in-law Oscar Johnson and Olaf Peterson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wed. Sept. 15, 2010 at 11 A.M. at Sons of Zebedee Parish, SS. James & John Catholic Church (W5882 Church Rd. Fond du Lac) in Byron. Rev Michael Petersen will officiate. Cremation to follow and private burial services will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Eden. Visitation will be held from 4 to7 P.M. on Tuesday, September 14th at Twohig Funeral Home, 109 W Main St., Campbellsport, and at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
