Gilbert W. Skovsted, 81, of Fond du Lac formerly of Racine died at the Hospice Home of Hope on January 19, 2011. He was born July 10, 1929 in Racine, the son of Kristian and Viola Nelsen Skovsted. He served his country in the U.S Army from 1948 until 1952 stationed first in Tacoma, WA and then in Japan. He married Faye Haney on March 7, 1953 at his parent’s home in Racine. He was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Caledonia and a current member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in the Town of Forest. Gilbert loved to spend time with his grandchildren playing games and telling stories. He made all of his granddaughters elaborate doll houses. In 1998 Gilbert and Faye moved to Fond du Lac. They loved travel and going out to eat with family and friends. Gilbert loved and trusted in Jesus as his Savior, and very much looked forward to spending eternity with Him in Heaven. Survivors include one son Russel (Cindy) Skovsted of Racine and four daughters: Dawn (Rev. Mark) Barenz of Mt. Calvary, Peggy (Bill) Pekrul of New Ulm, MN, Jan (Dave) Herre of Fond du Lac and Julie (Dale) Osterberg of DePere, 20 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one brother Cliff Skovsted of Fitchburg, one sister Virginia (Robert) Repa of Racine, two brother-in-laws: Peter Christofferson and Calvin Thompson both of Racine, one sister-in-law Doris Skovsted of Racine, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Faye on Jan.14, 2009, 2 brothers: Russel and Marvin and 3 sisters: LaVerne Christofferson, Bernice (Dick) Dreyer and Beulah Thompson and one sister-in-law Dorothy Skovsted. Funeral services will be held Sat. Jan. 22, 2011 at 3pm at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church, N6680 Cty Rd W,Mt. Calvary with Rev. Mark Barenz officiating and burial at the Lyons Forest Home Cemetery. Friends may visit from 1pm until the time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
