Olive Barbara Glass, 101, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother died peacefully Friday Mar. 11, 2011 at the St. Francis Home. She was born on Jan. 11, 1910 in Campbellsport, WI, the daughter of the late Jacob and Elizabeth Hall Schlaefer. After graduating from Campbellsport High School, she enrolled at the Fond du Lac County Normal School, earning her teaching certificate. She began a ten year teaching career in one and two room schools in Ashford, Campbellsport and Marblehead. Olive married Carroll “Kelly” Glass on September 10, 1938 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Campbellsport. After living in Milwaukee for seven years, they moved to Fond du Lac for the remainder of their 59 years of marriage. “Kelly” preceded her in death on November 11, 1997. Since her husbands death Olive resided at St. Clare’s Terrace, St. Francis Terrace and St. Francis Home. Olive was a member of Holy Family Parish and a former member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Olive had a great love for children, thoroughly enjoying her years of teaching, raising her four daughters, and visiting with her 20 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. She had a passion for gardening, a love for birds, music and poetry. Survivors include her 4 daughters: Lenore (Robert) Janda of Appleton, Lucille (Bill) Nuss of Ashland, OH, Mary (Paul) Schils of Fredonia and Jane (Michael) Schumaker of Milwaukee, 20 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Olive was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kelly, and one sister Rose Staehler. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Mon. Mar. 14, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the St. Francis Chapel, 33 Everett Street in Fond du Lac with her grandson Rev. David Nuss officiating, burial at St. Matthew’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. Memorials appreciated to the St. Francis Home.
