Gertrude M. Engels, 91, of Van Dyne went to her heavenly home on Mon. Aug. 8, 2011 at Hospice Home of Hope surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Fond du Lac on April 28, 1920 the daughter of the late William and Mary Biske Hackbarth. On May 6, 1950 she married Wendell L, Engels at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dundee. They shared 61 wonderful years together. Gertrude loved her family especially the little ones who were the apple of her eye. She loved to shop and do crossword puzzles. Survivors include her husband Wendell, her daughters Nadine Matthies of Fond du Lac and Nancy(special friend Rick) Bindert of Fond du Lac, her sons Russell of Van Dyne and Rodney (Diane) of Phoenix, Az, her 5 grandchildren: Melissa and Adam Bindert, Jessica Johnson, Janice and Jason Engels and three great grandchildren: Evan Bindert, Chloe Engels and Anthony Mata, three brothers: Lester (Rose) Hackbarth of Fond du Lac, George Hackbarth of Fond du Lac and Bill Hackbarth of Armstrong, three sisters: Janet (Dave) Flitter of Campbellsport, Mary (Ivan) Vorderbruggen of West Bend, Dorothy (Leander) Lefeber, a sister-in-law Viola Hackbarth of Fond du Lac, a brother–in-law Roger Lefeber of Campbellsport and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded by her parents, one brother Elmer Hackbarth and one sister Joyce Lefeber. A Time of Gathering will be Fri. Aug. 12 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Twohig Funeral Home at 305 Fond du Lac Avenue in Fond du Lac with burial on Sat. Aug. 13 at 10 AM at Union Cemetery in Campbellsport.
