She attended St. Peter and Paul grade school, and received her secondary education at St. Joseph’s Convent in Milwaukee. During World War II, Clarice worked for Badger Meter manufacturing defense materials. On July 7, 1948 she married Herman Theisen, fulfilling her dream of marrying a farmer. They farmed together in Campbellsport until retirement in 1980. Clarice loved farming, gardening, and raising her nine children. She was a wonderful cook and hosted countless large gatherings for family and friends. Everyone always felt welcome to visit and stay for dinner. Even on her deathbed she said she wished she could cook us all a nice dinner. Clarice enjoyed having a big family, especially as her nine children expanded to add twenty-two grandchildren and sixteen great- grandchildren. She and Herman continued living on the family farm after retirement. Together they enjoyed many years of bowling and card-playing. After Herman’s stroke, she courageously cared for him for several years until his death. Clarice throughout her life maintained a deep and abiding faith. She was a member of St. Matthew’s Church in Campbellsport and was involved in Christian Women Society and the prayer network, among other parish activities.
