George L. Waldschmidt, 92, of Campbellsport passed away Thursday Jan. 26, 2012 at his home. He was born on Sept. 3, 1919 in the Town of Taycheedah the son of Landre and Elizabeth (nee Pickart) Waldschmidt. On June 22, 1944, George married Mary M. Dreikosen at Holy Angels Church in West Bend. George took great pride and enjoyment in farming in the Town of Eden for over 65 years. He was a good steward of the land, growing crops for his dairy herd and raising many heifers and calves. He mentored his sons to the love of farming and expanded his herd and land for production. His faith and devotion to his family and farming were his life. He ushered at St. Matthew’s and was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus. His joy was spending time with his grand and great grand kids, actively playing with them; four wheeling, snowmobiling, camp-fires and fireworks. He taught his children and grandkids to play the German card game Sheepshead and great times were had playing the game with family and friends. His hobbies included gardening, making homemade cider and wine, mopeding, laying in the hammock and listening to a good polka on the accordion. He will also be remembered for his keen and witty sense of humor, generosity, motivated work ethic and the love of a good story. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather and he will be greatly missed. Survivors include his sons Gene (special friend Judy Lohse) and Paul (Karen) all of Campbellsport, his daughter Joan (John) Klapperich of Wasilla, Alaska, his grandchildren Jeanne and Allan (Stephanie) Waldschmidt and Kristina, Kaitlyn and Mary Klapperich, his great grandsons Jordan, Nathan and Connor Waldschmidt, his brother William (Lorraine), many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary on Feb. 22, 2003, his son Allen his brothers Elmer (Agnes), Henry (Ruth), Clarence (Alexia), Edgar (Evelyn) and Clemens (Janice), his sisters Esther (Ambrose) Krebsbach and Marie (Harvey) Martin, his brother-in-law Peter Dreikosen and his sisters-in-law Leona (Harvey) Jochman and Irene (Norman) Hammer. Visitation will be Monday Jan. 30th from 4 to 8 PM at the Twohig Funeral Home, 109 W. Main St. Campbellsport and on Tuesday Jan. 31st from 10 AM until time of Mass at the St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Campbellsport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday Jan. 31st at 11:00 AM at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Campbellsport. Rev. Neil Zinthefer will officiate and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Memorials are appreciated to Agnesian Hospice Hope or St. Matthew’s Church.
