Caitlin Maureen Scannell, 17 of Eden, arrived safely to heaven on Saturday, February 4, 2012, with a smile on her face. She was born the daughter of Tim and Jelaine (née Erdman) Scannell on September 26, 1994 in Sheboygan, WI. She lost her life in a car accident along with two fellow classmates. Caitlin was a junior at Campbellsport High School. She was ranked second in her class academically, was a Wisconsin Covenant student, and a member of the Youth Leadership Program of Fond du Lac. Caitlin touched the lives of all the people she met. She was a member of Life Teen at Shepherd of the Hills Parish. In June 2010, she participated in a mission trip to Chattanooga, TN. She volunteered many hours of her time to her church and community, including Project Linus. She was an assistant coach for the Eden Fourth Grade Girls Basketball Team. She loved sports and played varsity volleyball and varsity soccer for Campbellsport High School. She played on various volleyball club teams through the years, including Waupun Breakout and Ripon Riptide. Soccer club teams include Fondy Thunder, the Grafton Rangers, and the Plymouth Soccer Club. She loved to travel and in the summer of 2011 she participated in a school Spanish trip to Costa Rica and a family vacation to the Grand Canyon, Texas, and New Mexico. Caitlin is survived by her parents Tim and Jelaine of Eden; brothers Ryan of Columbus, OH and Neil of UW-La Crosse; sister Sheena and her fiancé Nate Brieske of Waupun; grandmother Mary Scannell of Armstrong; grandparents Marvin and Judy Erdman of Whitelaw; aunts and uncles Maureen and Bill Paffenroth of Oshkosh; Eileen and Jim Mirsberger of Burlington; Ann and Pat Del Ponte of Menasha; Dean and Heidi Erdman of Manitowoc; Kelly Capasso of Kalamazoo, MI; Kristy and Raymond Montes of El Paso, Texas; her many cousins and friends, and her dog Charlie. Caitlin was preceded in death by her grandfather Stephen H. Scannell and her uncle and godfather Stephen J. Scannell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 7 PM at Shepherd of the Hills Church in Eden. Fr. Joseph J. Juknialis will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2012 from 3 PM to7 PM at Campbellsport High School Gymnasium and on Friday, February 10, 2012 from 5 PM to 7 PM at Shepherd of the Hills Church in Eden. Burial will be at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Armstrong. In the spirit of Caitlin’s giving nature, her tissues were donated for transplant purposes, including her beautiful brown eyes.
