Sadie (Thome) Mathers, 91, of Campbellsport went to her heavenly home peacefully on Monday March 19, 2012 surrounded by her family at Ivy Manor Assisted Living. She was born Dec. 25, 1920 the daughter of Frank and Ida Enderle Thome. Sadie graduated from Lomira High School and then the Fond du Lac Tech School with a business course degree. She worked in the office of Pure Milk Products. On June 24, 1944 she married Verne Mathers at the Evangelical Brethren Church in Lomira. They farmed together in Lomira for several years before moving to Ashford where they resided for eleven years. In 1960, they purchased an old school house in rural Campbellsport and worked together to make it into their loving home for their children. Sadie enjoyed cooking and baking all her life. While living in Ashford, she cooked dinner in her home for the county highway workers and made many meals for the farm threshing crew. She also baby sat in her home for several families. In 1962, Sadie started at Campbellsport Public School District in the kitchen and became the cook manager. She enjoyed working with the students and her co-workers with whom she became close friends as well as the teachers and school administration. Sadie retired after twenty-six years with the school system. After retiring she and her husband enjoyed traveling on various bus tours. They raised a beautiful garden and many potato plots over the years. She spent a lot of time with her grandchildren who will miss her dearly. Sadie enjoyed playing sheepshead with family and friends and at the Lomira, Campbellsport and Eden Senior Centers. Sadie and her husband celebrated fifty years of marriage before Verne passed away on Dec. 31, 1994. Sadie was also preceded in death by her parents Frank and Ida. Survivors include her daughter Sharon (Jerry) Baumhardt of Eden, her son Jim (Rita) Mathers of Baraboo, her grandchildren Michelle Urban (special friend Scott), Michael Baumhardt (special friend Judy), Matthew (Amy) Baumhardt all of Eden, Travis Mathers (special friend Allie) of Green Bay and Ryan Mathers of Baraboo and her great grandchildren Zoey Promen, Brayson Baumhardt and Mia Baumhardt all of Eden. Visitation will be Thursday March 22nd from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Campbellsport United Christian Church UCC, 228 Forest St. Funeral services will be held on Thursday March 22nd at 12:30 PM at the church with Rev. Paula Anderson officiating. A lunch will be following the services in the Fellowship Hall at the church and entombment will follow the lunch at Ledgeview Memorial Park, Fond du Lac. Memorials in her names may be donated to Ivy Manor Assisted Living, the United Christian Church, Heartland Hospice or the Eden Lions Club.
