Lorena A. Michels, 101, of Fond du Lac, died May 22, 2012 at St. Agnes Hospital. She was born on Oct. 13, 1910 in the town of Fond du Lac, the daughter of the late Nicholas and Ida Batterman Gantner. She married the love of her life Elmer Michels on April 2, 1932 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fond du Lac. She farmed all her married life with her husband in the Town of Fond du Lac. She taught school for many years retiring in 1985 but she continued doing substitute teaching. She was a member of the Fond du Lac Retired Educator’s Association, Founder and Leader of the Wonder Workers 4-H, and a Fond du Lac Homemakers member for 48 years and served as President. She was a member of Holy Family-St. Mary’s Church. Survivors include her four sons: James Michels of North Fond du Lac, Nicholas (Helene) Michels, Joseph “Bud” (Judy) Michels, and Donald (Patti) Michels all of Fond du Lac, one daughter-in-law Connie Troskey of Fond du Lac, 17 grandchildren: Jeff, Jim, Steve, Dan, Michelle, Kathleen, Jodie, Jacquie, Julie, Jill, Jessica, Joshua, Tyler, Debra, Robert, Thomas and Penny, 27 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer on April 27, 2000, one son George, one infant daughter Mary, one infant son Robert and two sisters: Eleanor Blanford and Verona Baier. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday May 25, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the Holy Family Church, 271 Fourth Street Way in Fond du Lac entombment to follow at the Chapel of the Risen Christ in Calvary Cemetery in Fond du Lac. Visitation will be Thursday May 24th from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Twohig Funeral Home 305 Fond du Lac Avenue, Fond du Lac and Friday at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of Mass.
