Craig C. “Quincy” Chitwood, 63, of North Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully at the Hospice Home of Hope Thurs. May 31, 2012. Craig was born on December 1, 1948 in Watertown, the son of the late Renville and Marion Kobs Chitwood. He graduated from Horace Mann High School, North Fond du Lac in June 0f 1967. Craig matriculated to U.W. Platteville, his father’s alma mater where he majored in English and physical education. He received his diploma in June 1971 and entered the teaching profession at Perkins, MI. There he taught all physical education and English. In addition, he coached boys cross country, fourth thru varsity basketball and boys track. From 1974-1978, he returned to Wisconsin to teach and coach in Shiocton. He served as Lions Club secretary, vice-president and president. He and his family moved to Ladysmith in 1979 and taught in Winter until relocating to Dodgeville for his final seven years of full-time employment as teacher and coach. In Ladysmith, he served as interim sports editor of the Ladysmith News and inaugurated the Lakeland Conference middle school track program. Craig enjoyed singing in choirs at the various churches he attended and directed when needed. He also sang in barbershop organizations in Ladysmith and Dodgeville. His other works included serving as secretary of Heart O’North Gospel Ministry, charter treasurer of Tri-State Officials Association, secretary of Wisconsin Cross Country Coaches Association. He enjoyed fishing, boating, the cottage in Mt. Morris, working on Puzzles, his flower and vegetable gardens, painting, helping others with their yardwork, just talking outside, always willing to give good advice to others, lending a hand whenever it was needed. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Fond du Lac. Craig married the love of his life, Sue Ellen Klotz Gierach on June 13th, 2009. Survivors include his wife Sue of North Fond du Lac, one son Matt (Kim) Chitwood of Dodgeville and their daughters Lindsey, Ashley and Trilby, one daughter Emily(David) Rhoden of Seattle , WA and their sons Levi and Asa, one brother Jim, one niece Sarah and one nephew Jason and many other relatives and friends. Craig was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral will be held Saturday June 2, 2012 at 11:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, 1225 Fourth St. Fond du Lac. Friends may call at the church on Sat. from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Burial will follow at the Estabrooks Cemetery. Memorials would be appreciated to the family.
