Wilbert F. Gitter, 88, of Fond du Lac passed away Friday June 1, 2012 at St. Francis Terrace. He was born in Hartford on Feb. 24, 1924, the son of the late Frank W. and Margaret P. (nee Stommel) Gitter. On June 23, 1945 he married Florence Wondra at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Leroy. Wilbert attended St. Kilan Parochial School and farmed for most of his life and after his years of farming he became a manager at Fleet Farm until retirement in 1986. He was a member of Holy Family Parish, Sacred Heart Church and enjoyed playing sheepshead, bowling and was an avid reader and a member of the Mall Striders. Most of all he enjoyed the time he spent with his family. Survivors include his wife Florence, his children Jerry (Betty) of Lomira, Jim (Patty) of Longmont, CO, Tom (Jane) of Green Bay, Dave (Claudia “Muff”) of Mt. Calvary, Mary (Fran) Russart of Green Bay, Andy (Sandy) of Oconomowoc, Rick (Melissa) of Jamison, PA, Mike (Bonnie) of Franklin, Steve (Amy) of Omro and Bob (Joyce) of Greenville, his grandchildren Todd (Leila), Dean (Lisa), Jennifer (Heath) Odau, Jan Nelson, Julie (Dave) Cornette, Jeff (Maria), Kevin (Betsy), Pam (Jeremie) Birch, Beth Russart, Bryan Russart, Tony (Becky), Daniel, Calvin, Chandler, Evan, Catherine and Aaron, his great-grandchildren, Paige, Austin, Alyssa, Shannon, Hailey, Trent, Madeline, Emily, Hannah, Breanna, Karissa, Tessa, Jack and William, his brother, Donald of Fond du Lac, his sister, Margaret Beck of Fond du Lac, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a grandson Christopher, a great-grandson Patrick, a brother-in-law Jerome Beck, a sister-in-law Catherine Gitter and many other beloved family members. Private family services with a Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday June 6, 2012 at 3:00 PM at the St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett St. Fond du Lac.
