The angels took Alice C. Roltgen, home on Monday, Sept. 17, 2012 after 99 years as a loving wife, mom, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Alice died at Rocky Knoll, Plymouth 5 months after suffering a stroke. She was born on March 20, 1913 in Dundee, the daughter of the late Daniel and Rose Skelton Calvey. Alice graduated from Plymouth High School in 1931 after which she attended Sheboygan County Normal and taught school for 3 years in the county. On Sept. 2, 1936, Alice married Jerome H. Roltgen at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in the Town of Mitchell. They settled on the Roltgen Homestead in the town of Greenbush, where she lived until her stroke. Alice was a member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Armstrong, now Shepherd of the Hills. She was active in school plays and the Altar Society. She and her husband enjoyed playing cards and square dancing. For many years they had a “Farm Vacation Home” located on the homestead. City families enjoyed taking part in the activities of rural life, while living in a separate home on their farm. Alice also participated in many art shows throughout Wisconsin, winning awards for her paintings on barn boards and her homemade greeting cards. In her later years she enjoyed crocheting, music from her family and visits from family and friends. Survivors include 5 daughters, Mary Alice (Joe) Palof of St. Cloud, Cathy (Dick) Draeger of Fond du Lac, Therese (Dr. Richard) Cross of MA, Germaine (fiancé Scott) Calvey Ditter of Dundee and Colette Calvey (Bruce) Drehmel of Fond du Lac, 3 sons; Rick (Karen Gogolick) of Madison, Bob (Gretchen) of Baraboo and Joe (Edna) of Glenbeulah, 26 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, one sister-in-law Marie Calvey of Plymouth, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Jerome, two sisters, Ruth Roltgen and Mary Foy, three brothers, Bernard, Miles and Francis Calvey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday Sept. 20th at 6:00 PM at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church, W1562 County Rd. B, Eden. Rev. Charles Wester will officiate and burial will be Friday in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Armstrong. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 PM until time of Mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Father Mike Shea, Shepherd of the Hills or Rocky Knoll can be made.
