Melvin E. Sook, age 80, passed away Friday Nov. 16, 2012 at home in the room he was born in. He was born on March 2, 1932 the only child of the late Elmer and Marie (Wunder) Sook. He grew up on the family farm two miles East of Campbellsport graduating from Campbellsport High School in 1950. Mel was known to friends and family for his curious, intelligent and generous nature. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict later attending Lakeland College and UW-Madison graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering. He met the love of his life Carelo Clark at a UW square dance. The daughter of a U.S. diplomat she was fluent in four languages (English, Spanish, French and German). On Sept. 10, 1960 they were united in marriage in Sheboygan Falls and moved to Milwaukee. He designed hydraulic pistons for Oil Gear, valves for Erie Corp, and C.A.T. Scans for G.E. They then moved to Kiel where he designed cheese making equipment for Stoelting later designing hydraulics for Leach Corp in Oshkosh. After his father’s death they moved back to the family farm. Melvin retired at age 65 from Leach Corp. becoming more active in the Town of Auburn council and the Campbellsport United Church of Christ Survivors include daughter Ellen-Marie Sook of Fond du Lac, son Scott Sook of Campbellsport, his sister-in-law Claire Peterson of Nashville, TN, other relatives and many loving friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Carelo and brother-in-law Richard Peterson. Funeral services will be held on Friday Nov. 23rd at 2:00 PM the Campbellsport United Church of Christ (228 Forest St.). Rev. Paula Anderson will officiate and burial will follow in Auburn Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday Nov. 23rd from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM at the Twohig Funeral Home (109 W. Main St. Campbellsport).
