Marie Helen (Janous) Mathieu of rural Campbellsport, died at her home on January 14th. Marie was born on September 7, 1927 in Ashford, the daughter of the late, Joseph and Agnes Bodden Janous. Marie attended Ashford grade school and did her secondary education at Campbellsport High School graduating in 1946. Marie worked for the Bauer Chrysler dealership in 1946 and Stella Cheese Co. until 1953. On November 25, 1950, she married Orville W. Mathieu at St. Martin Church in Ashford and they were together for 54 years until Orville's passing in 2004. Marie was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church and the Women's Christian Society. For 25 years she belonged to the Tri-Town Homemakers group. For 12 years, Marie volunteered as a tutor in the Fond du Lac Adult Literacy program. She participated in the New Castle stock investment club and for many years was co-chair for the Auburn chapter of the Wisconsin Arthritis Association. Survivors include Marie's five children: Robert (Rose Ann) Mathieu of Glendale, Barbara (Tom Johnson) Mathieu of Sausalito, California, John (Mary) Mathieu of West Bend, Laura (Dan) George of Portage, and Jim Mathieu of Fond du Lac. She has six grandchildren: Brett ( Kristin) George, Matthew George, Charles Mathieu, Nick Mathieu, Philip (Leslie) LeQua, and Rachel (Aaron) Strahl. She is also survived by one sister, Evelyn (Doug) Uelmen, and three brothers: Andy (Pat) Janous, Frances (Joanie) Janous, Jim (Sue) Janous; brother-in-law, Frank Fell, sister-in-law, Irene Janous, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by brother, Leo Janous, brother-in-law, Roger Mathieu, and sisters-in-law, Arlene Fell and Luella Mathieu. Visitation will be Saturday, January 19th from 10:30 am until 1:00 pm at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Campbellsport followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 pm at the church. Rev. Neil Zinthefer will officiate and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Memorials will be forwarded to St. Matthew’s Parish, Campbellsport High School Scholarship Fund and the local Arthritis Foundation.
