David Dale Zingsheim

March 7, 1932 — February 5, 2013

David (Dale) Zingsheim, 80, of Campbellsport, died Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at Hospice Home of Hope, with his wife Lois at his side, after a lengthy illness. Cremation has followed. He was born March 7, 1932, in the Town of Addison to Leander and Francis Zingsheim. On December 17, 1985, he married Lois E. Weiland of St. Kilian. A veteran of the Korean War, Dale served with the U.S. Army for two years. After the military, he worked at Gehl Company for 30 years and was a bartender at the Fireside Restaurant, Allenton, for many years. For the last 26 years, Dale’s life has revolved around his business, family, and friends. From 1980-2005, he and Lois owned and operated The Amber Hotel in Campbellsport. Their success at re-establishing The Amber into a local anchor, which served the community and visitors, was a highlight in Dale’s life. The business often was chosen for family celebrations and milestones. Friday nights found Dale behind the bar, practicing his lifelong skills as a well-known bartender, ensuring The Amber guests could relax after a long week. In 1989 and 1996, Dale and Lois were presented with the WRA Outstanding Restaurateurs of the Year awards. Dale always held a special place in his heart for his employees and devoted customers. In his free time, Dale enjoyed his favorite country artist George Jones, humming along to favorite tunes as he pursued hobbies of golfing, fishing and bowling. A fisherman who learned the art from his father, Dale was especially proud of serving the fish he caught and had smoked. Bowling provided a different challenge, with a highlight being a 300 game. He enjoyed his passion for golf with Jack Pesch, his best friend, who was present when Dale scored a hole in one. Whenever possible, the two played many rounds of golf in the Campbellsport area and on the Arizona golf courses. Upon retirement, Dale could be seen mowing the fairways of Auburn Bluffs. Some of the most cherished memories of Dale are how much he enjoyed visiting and sharing good food and drink with all who spent time with him. In addition to his business life, Dale was a member of the FOHL-Martin Legion Post 483, the Campbellsport Lions Club, Campbellsport Chamber of Commerce, St. Matthew’s Parish, and served two terms on the Campbellsport Village Board. Dale is survived by Lois, his spouse of 28 years; his six children: Paul (Amy) of Jackson; Pattie Stoffel of Whitefish Bay; Steve (special friend Val) of Slinger; Sandy (Joe) Wisth of Hartford; Scott (Brenda) of Grayslake, Illinois; and Pam O’Hearn (special friend Jeff) of Fond du Lac; his grandchildren Aaron, Amanda, Nicki, Brett, Christopher, Kristy, Gabriel, Alexandria, Savannah, Olivia, Samantha, and Justin; his great-grandchildren Kayle, William, Wesley, Chase and Bentley; his sisters Marian Pfeifer of Kewaskum; Joan (Sonny) Held of Neosho; Joyce Hart of West Bend; his brother Gerald (Judy) of Minocqua; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Weiland of St. Kilian; sisters-in-law Diane Weiland of Mt. Calvary; Jane (Jim) Hutchinson of Pickett, and brother-in-law, Pat Hare of St. Kilian, many nieces, nephews, and friends. Dale was preceded in death by his parents Francis and Leander Zingsheim; his brother Richard; brothers-in-law Dale Hart and Bill Pfeifer; father-in-law Leander O. Weiland; sister-in-law Bonnie Weiland-Hare; and his good golfing buddy Jack Pesch. Visitation is Saturday, February 9, 2013, from 12:00-4:00 p.m., at Twohig Funeral Home, 109 W. Main St. Campbellsport. A service celebrating Dale’s life and military rites will be held from 4-5:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
