Words can summarize the events of life, but words cannot describe a beautiful soul. Joseph Harold Floyd ran into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, November 20. He was born on June 20, 1921 to Chester and Anna Halter Floyd at Saint Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac. He attended St. Mary's grade school and Goodrich High. He served as an altar boy throughout his early years. Joe met his future bride, Lois Immel, at Giebels Dance pavilion at Lake Deneveu. Shortly thereafter he was called to serve his country in WWII. He completed his basic training at Camp Crowder, Missouri before being deployed to the Aleutian Islands as a radar specialist. After a brief furlough he was assigned to New Guinea, the Philippines and finally Japan. Joe received his honorable discharge in November, 1945. Upon his return home he married his wartime sweetheart on June 20, 1946. Together they purchased a farm in the town of Forest where they built their home and live to this day. They raised ten children and instilled in them a love of God, family and country. Besides farming, Joe worked in the family plastering business with his father and brothers. In later years he also worked as a milk tester, factory worker and bus driver. He was always willing to help anyone in need; having talent for fixing anything. His kind generosity was evident in all he enjoyed doing: feeding the birds, planting trees, tending the earth, sharing his garden and gladiolus and creating wooden toys and gifts. Besides his wife, Lois, Joe is survived by his children, Patty (Allan) Schreurs; Mike (Barb) Floyd; Stan (Kristie) Floyd; Mary Rita "Beata" (Charlie) Weiland; Nancy "Nan" (Gary) Gellings; Greg (Peggy) Floyd; Anita "Annie" (Pete) Andrew; John (Barb) Floyd; Rich Floyd and special friend, Jeanne Weber; Carolyn (Jack) Schickert; thirty-two grandchildren; thirty-seven and a half great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary (Nick) Dickrell and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Eugene (Erna) Floyd; Thomas (Mabel) Floyd; one son-in-law, Bill Wirtz; mother in law, Teresa (Bird) Immel; father in law, Louis Immel; sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Francis) Bothe; Lucille (Gilbert) Knauer; brothers-in-law, Donald Immel; Darwin (Gladys) Immel; Kenneth (Esther) Immel and Robert (Helen) Immel; two nephews, Jerry Floyd and Lou Immel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday Nov. 22nd at 6:00 PM at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church, W1562 County Rd. B Eden. Rev. Chuck Wrobel will officiate and private family committal services and military rites will be Saturday at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Armstrong. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00 PM until time of mass at the church. Memorials will be directed to Joe's favorite charities and other family wishes.
