Richard Lee Zabel

February 28, 1959 — December 13, 2014

Richard ("Zeke") Zabel, resident of Eldorado, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014. He was born on Feb. 28, 1959, in Fond du Lac, a son of Alvin and Darlene (Schneider) Zabel. He was a loving, hard-working, witty, generous husband, father, uncle, friend, coach and mentor. Celebrating the "little things" in life was his common pursuit. From helping raise his children and grandchildren to planting trees and digging ponds, to hunting, fishing, race car driving, athletics, wood-working, coaching youth, making jokes and taking Sunday drives, Rick brought a loving-warmth to all those who knew him. Rick is survived by his loving wife, Kathy, of thirty-four years; three children, Brooke (Matt) of Red Bud, IL, Nathan (Kim) of Oconomowoc, WI, Jordan (Hilary) of Columbia, IL; four grandchildren Mason & Lane Cowell, Kate & Sydney Zabel & friend, Peyton Beduhn. Rick is further survived by his mother Darlene Zabel of Brandon, his brothers, Alex (Ann), Edward (Lori), Michael, Bruce (Heidi), his sister Ellen (Robb) and several nieces and nephews. Rick's celebration of life will be held at Community Church at N6717 Streblow Dr. Fond du Lac, on Friday, Dec. 19. The visitation begins at 4 p.m. with a service held at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
