Marion J. (Goebel) O'Brien, 89, of Fond du Lac died peacefully surrounded by her loving family Friday May 15, 2015 at Beaver Dam Community Hospital. She valiantly fought emphysema for over 20 years. She was born June 17, 1925 in the Town of Fond du Lac to the late Henry N. & Kathryn (nee Wietor) Goebel. Marion graduated from St. Mary's Springs Academy and Fond du Lac Commercial College. On Oct. 18 1950 she married John F. O'Brien at St. Mary's Church, Fond du Lac WI. She was the Deputy City Clerk for the city of Fond du Lac prior to her marriage, the office manager for Pet Shop Management Magazine and then the bookkeeper for Wood-All Lumber before retiring. Marion was a member of Holy Family Parish. Mom's kitchen was the heart of her home and she was the pulse. We laughed, played games, painted china, and shared meals. She also enjoyed reading, quilting and soduco. She was fondly known as "The Queen Mum" and was a strong caring woman who had a huge loving heart. Mom always said that her children were her diamonds. She enjoyed every moment she could get with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her children Michael H. O'Brien of Madison, Kathleen O'Brien of Tennessee, Alice (Christ) Tzakais, Helen (Tony) Barthuly, Susan (Robert) Perry all of Fond du Lac and Eileen (David) Gratton of Juneau, her grandchildren Tina (Joel) Ongert, Jerry (Danielle) Tzakais, Rick (Louise) Gratton, Rob (Jennifer) Gratton, Nora Gratton (friend Joel Beckwith), Joe Gratton, John "Bart" (Bree) Barthuly, Jene' Barthuly, Jason Perry and Brian Perry and her great grandchildren Teagan and Kenna Ongert and Jonathan, Mary Jo and Bella Gratton. She is further survived by her sisters Catherine Ann Adelmeyer of Fond du Lac and Sr. Josephine Goebel, CSA of Arizona; her sister-in-law RoseMarie (Goebel) Backhaus of Kewaskum; her brother-in-law Raymond Wirth of Mt. Calvary; numerous nieces & nephews; other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents Henry N. & Kathryn Goebel; her husband John F. O'Brien, sisters Margaret (Wilbur) Buell, Helen (Ted) Nadolny and Lorraine Wirth (her twin); brothers Henry Goebel, Rev. Nicholas Goebel and John Goebel; and brother-in-law Milton Adelmeyer. Visitation will be Wed. May 20th from 4 to 8 PM at the Twohig Funeral Home, 305 Fond du Lac Ave. Fond du Lac and on Thur. May 21st from 9:30 AM until time of Mass at Holy Family Church, 271 Fourth St. Way, Fond du Lac. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thur. May 21st at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Eden. Memorials are appreciated to St. Mary's Springs Academy.
