Richard J. King, 73, of Oshkosh passed away Wednesday Oct. 28, 2015 at Park View Health Center in Oshkosh. He was born in the Town of Empire on Nov. 19, 1941 the son of Joseph and Hildeguard Kern King. He graduated from St. Mary's Spring High school in 1959 and attended the United States Naval Academy. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from June 8, 1959 until March 7, 1963. He served on the U.S.S. Buck DD-761. He was a member of Holy Family Parish- St. Joseph's Church. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Association. Richard loved his family, long walks, Taco John's, metal detecting, coffee, the Main Exchange, reading, Tucker's, five card stud, Friar Tuck's, chess, horses, Sully's, ice-skating, coin collecting, the Main St. Kwik Trip, Winston cigarettes, the Kentucky Derby, Faros' American fries, and Kenny Roger's song, the Gambler. He enjoyed good company, wry jokes, and naps. He was a great listener, and supported people as they faced life's challenges. Survivors include his daughter Jessica J.(Matthew Schwitzer) King of Oshkosh, step son Robert Korth of Oshkosh, two step daughters: Pamela (Scott) Hempel of Green Lake and Heidi Ford of Rosendale, 7 step grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren, 5 brothers: George of CO, David of Fond du Lac, Michael of Fond du Lac, John (June) of Rosendale and Charlie of Mt. Calvary and 4 sisters: Ruth Elizalde of Fond du Lac, Rose (Ray) Johnson of Milwaukee, Susan King of Keshena and Donna King of Fond du Lac, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: Patrick and Daniel and 2 sisters: Jeanne and Mary King, and Jessica's mother Barbara King. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00AM on Tues. Nov. 3, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 200 S. Peters Ave. Fond du Lac. Burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Eden with military rites by the Trier Puddy American Legion Post #75. Visitation will be Tues. Nov. 3rd from 9:30 AM until 11AM at the Church. Memorials are appreciated to the NAMI-Friendship corner.
