Robert E. Twohig, 92, of Armstrong passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, West Bend, but his kind and gentle soul will live on. He was born on the family farm near Armstrong in the Town of Osceola on August 1, 1924, the son of the late George R. and Mollie Browne Twohig. His education began in a one room schoolhouse and concluded as a 1943 graduate of the first coed class of St. Mary Springs High School. On Sept. 26, 1959, Bob married Rose Mary Scannell at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Armstrong. He farmed the family homestead all his life.
Bob was a member of St. Isidore the Farmer Parish and the Knights of Columbus. Bob began his involvement in the Catholic Church as a young boy serving mass at Our Lady of Angels in Armstrong. As he grew, so did his faith, later becoming a member of the Holy Name Society, serving on the parish council, lectoring, and running the bingo tent at the annual church picnic.
Most important to Bob were his God, his family, and his Irish heritage. He and his grandchildren shared a special bond through conversations and many visits, lawn mower rides and the many stories shared. Bob was a member of the AMPI and was proud of his purebred Holsteins. He was an avid sportsman, participating in baseball and basketball in the East Shore League, bowling for the Banner Feed Mill and the Knights of Columbus, and ski jumping at Johnson Hill near Plymouth. He loved talking about family and local history, using his creative side to write about favorite memories. Some of these stories were published in the Fond du Lac Reporter.
Survivors include his loving daughters Mary Ann (Chad) Reingold of Encino, CA, Patti Marcinko of Oswego, IL, and Robbie Twohig of Burlington, WI, his grandchildren Micaila Kelly and Egan Robert Marcinko and Lilly Rose, Thomas Julius and Nicholas Robert Reingold, his sister Patricia Twohig, his sister-in-law June Twohig, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Rose Mary on May 31, 2005, his son-in-law David Marcinko, his sisters Laura May Twohig, Nora (Herb) Niederehe, Elizabeth “Betty” Twohig and Margaret (Jerry) Fitzgerald and his brothers Dr. George (Catherine) Twohig, David (Roseann) Twohig, John (Florence) Twohig and Leo Twohig, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law James Scannell, George and Marie Scannell, Isabelle and Francis Bothe and his nephew Pat Scannell.
