Monica Regina Lafleur

Monica Regina LaFleur, 93, of Campbellsport entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 8, 2018, at Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac following a stroke in early June.  She was born at home and raised in Sheboygan County, the daughter of the late master farmer Leo B. Gill and his wife Agnes K. Gill (nee McMullen), a former teacher.  Monica attended Sunny Hill Grade School and graduated from Waldo High School in 1942.

In 1947, Monica graduated from then Central State Teachers College in Stevens Point, now UW-Stevens Point, with a double major in Home Economics and English.  She then taught Home Economics at West De Pere High School (1947-49) and at New London High School (1949-50).  Monica also taught night (technical) school sewing classes in Stevens Point (1951-56).

On June 24, 1950, Monica married Jerry A. LaFleur at St. Michaels Catholic Church, near the family farm west of Cascade in the Town of Mitchell, in western Sheboygan County.  Her twin sister Marie was her bridesmaid.  She then began her successful lifelong effort of raising their family of five children.  Leaving the family farm in 1950, Monica and Jerry lived in Stevens Point, Westboro (near Medford), Wild Rose, Pittsville and since 1969 in Campbellsport.

From 1976-99 Monica worked in the fabric department and several years as department manager for the area Ben Franklin Stores in Campbellsport, Waupun and Mayville.  She was a lifelong sewing expert.  She served on the Campbellsport Library Board for 30 years, 29 as Board Secretary and was involved in the development and building of the current library.

As an involved parishioner, Monica served as a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church committee overseeing the major remodeling project in the mid-2000’s.  She was also a member of the Christian Mothers group.  She was a Meals on Wheels volunteer driver for the School Sisters of St. Francis Convent prepared meals.

From 1989-2000 Monica traveled to at least 16 countries including Israel (twice), Egypt, Jordan, Italy, Vatican City, Ireland, Wales, Britain, Russia, Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Poland, Hungary, France and Canada.

Monica is survived by Jerry, her husband of 68 years, and their 5 children: Joseph (Catherine) of suburban Baltimore, MD; Nadine of Pewaukee; Peggy of Campbellsport; Ann (Scott) of Milwaukee and John (Julie) of Hartland; her four grandchildren: Michael Jerry (Candice) LaFleur of Baltimore; Jacqueline Regina LaFleur of Baltimore; Adam Louis LaFleur of Bel Air in suburban Baltimore and Monica Mae LaFleur of Hartland.She is also survived by her younger sister Jeanne (Robert) Staehler of Kewaskum.  She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Monica was preceded in death by her parents, her brother J. Kenneth, and sisters Margaret Gill and Marie Janisse.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated in Monica’s name to the Campbellsport Public Library and St. Matthew's Church.

The first visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Twohig Funeral Home, 109 W. Main St. Campbellsport, WI 53010.  A second visitation will be on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, from 3:00 pm until 4:00 pm at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 406 E. Main Street, Campbellsport, WI 53010. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation on Wednesday, the Rev. Neil Zinthefer will officiate.  Interment will follow at St. Matthew’s Cemetery in Campbellsport.
