Blia Choua Vang passed away on Friday, September 14, 2018 inFond du Lac, WI, at the age of 78. He was born in Laos on June 15, 1940. He married the late Youa Xiong in 1960. They had 11 children of which two daughters and three sons passed away at an early age. Youa passed away in 2004. Blia Choua later married Houa Lor in 2006.
S/LT. Blia Choua fought in the CIA’s Special Guerrilla Unit in the Secret War in Laos from 1963 to 1975. In 1978 , Blia Choua took his family and crossed the Mekong River into Thailand to flee the Communist persecution in Laos. Blia Choua immigrated to the United States in 1992 and became a proud naturalized US citizen in 2001.
Blia Choua had a passion for helping out the Hmong community and was one of the leaders in the Hmong community in Fond du Lac, WI. Blia Choua loved playing the qeej instrument and was renowned as a grandmaster qeej player in the Hmong community. Blia Choua was also a shaman who helped healed the spirits of many in the Hmong community. Last but not least, Blia Choua was a kind loving husband and a devoted father, grandfather, and friend to many.
Leaving to cherish his loving memories are his wife, two sons with their wife and children, and four daughters with their husband and children.
A traditional four-day Hmong funeral service will be held on Friday, September 28th through Monday, October 1st at the Hmoob Cultural and Community Center in La Crosse, WI.
